Assaults on ICE Agents up Nearly 700%, Homeland Security Says

Assaults against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal immigration authorities are up nearly 700% over the same time last year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Fox News.

"DHS tells @FoxNews that assaults against ICE/federal agents conducting immigration enforcement are now up nearly 700% over the same time last year," Fox News National Correspondent Bill Melugin posted.

According to Melugin, DHS reported 10 assaults on ICE and other federal immigration agents from Jan. 21, 2024, to June 30, 2024. There have been 79 assaults on authorities from Jan. 21, 2025, to June 30, 2025, or a 690% increase over both periods.

The alarming statistic precedes what federal authorities called a "coordinated ambush" on an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas, on July 4. According to multiple reports, ten people were charged with attempted murder after shooting fireworks toward federal agents at the Prairieland ICE Detection Center in Alvarado, about an hour south of Dallas.

The attackers, who investigators said wore black military style clothing, also spray-painted the facility and cars in the parking lot with derogatory terms toward immigration agents, such as "traitor" and "ICE pig."

A police officer who arrived at the scene was also allegedly shot in the neck by one of the attackers hiding out in nearby woods. Another individual is alleged to have fired multiple rounds across the street at correctional officers who walked out of the facility to investigate.

Another scary incident targeting Border Patrol agents occurred on Monday, where a shooter dressed in tactical gear and armed with a rifle was killed after firing at agents at a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen, Texas.

During a press conference on Wednesday, President Donald Trump claimed the recent attack against ICE agents in Alvarado may have been funded by far-left groups.

"I think you have some very stupid people on the left who have some money that are making it available to these people," Trump said. "Because you look at the guns they had, they were brand new. You look at even the clothing they were wearing, it looked like it just came out of some military shop."

"There is money being put behind people, when you look at the weapons they have. The newness of the weapons, rifles that just came out, and they have the latest model," Trump continued. "So there's something going on, and we'll get to the bottom of it."
