Rep. Gimenez Condemns Cuban Regime for Hosting Iranian Parliament Leader

U.S. Rep. Carlos Gimenez, (R-FL), made a call out post to his social media, condemning the Cuban regime over hosting Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

“The dictatorship in Cuba has just welcomed terrorist Iran into our hemisphere — 90 miles away from America. Is this how the Castro-Díaz-Canel regime thinks it’s going to improve relations with the U.S.?” Gimenez said.

Rep. Gimenez closed his post warning “The Cuban regime’s days are numbered! Enough is enough!”

On June 3, 2025, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez welcomed Qalibaf to discuss future plans and interests in the Caribbean islands.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an article detailing the discussion between both parties.

“The Head of State appreciated that a visit like this strengthens our historic relations and demonstrates the importance that both governments place on bilateral ties, both politically and economically and commercially.”

President Díaz-Canel emphasized that the presence of the Iranian parliament in the Greater Antilles is an expression of the unity that must exist between the two nations and its peoples, when both are subjected to coercive measures by “Yankee imperialism.”

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on February 10, 1975 and grew stronger during the 1979 Iranian Revolution.

With both nations being considered threats to the U.S. and its interests, Cuban-Iranian relations typically center on economic and military assistance.

According to an article written by the Middle East Institute, “Cuba and Iran have cooperated in the fields of defense, military, and intelligence. The most recent widely reported case of intelligence cooperation was in 2003, following Cuban jamming of U.S.-based satellite broadcasts to Iran.”

“While Cuba may achieve some level of stability from relations with Iran, Havana-Tehran ties will continue to impede the normalization of U.S.-Cuba relations.”
