Florida Department of Law Enforcement Reports 'Zero' Damage from Weekend Protests

Share

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) announced Monday that there were zero instances of blocked roads or property damage from the weekend's "No Kings Day" protests across the state. The FDLE also praised demonstrators for staying peaceful, a contrast to recent protests in Los Angeles.

"ZERO blocked roads. ZERO property damage. While other states saw chaos, Florida’s demonstrations stayed peaceful and controlled this weekend," the FDLE said. "A testament to Florida being the law and order state."

The FDLE specifically noted having the Florida Capitol Complex "safe and secure" in Tallahassee on the weekend.

"One officer helped an elderly woman who fainted from the heat. Others received handshakes from the crowd," the FDLE said. "Protesters even cleaned up after themselves. In Florida, law and order isn’t optional—it’s the standard."

The weekend protests came after several warnings by Florida officials to stay civil, including by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"Our folks are ready at the state level. As you know, the local police will be the first to respond if anything goes wrong," DeSantis said on Fox News days before. "County sheriffs will be there as well. We have our state law enforcement on standby. They'll be ready to go."

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey also shared a similar, albeit more direct warning to possible agitators last Wednesday.

Locally in South Florida, a pair of protests on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale Beach and Miami looked more like a leftist special interest rally.

Demonstrators in Fort Lauderdale Beach largely rallied in favor of the LGBTQ community and against actions by Israel. However, one protester did wear a shirt that appeared to target President Donald Trump.

The protest in Miami brought similar pro-LGBTQ activists. Specifically, in both events, demonstrators largely veered away from criticism of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which took center stage in protests in Los Angeles.
