WASHINGTON— By a majority vote count of 344- 79, and with 9 House members not voting, the Republican-led House of Representatives and 128 House Democrats struck down the latest bill measure calling for the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.
Texas Rep. Al Green (D) sponsored H. Res. 537, but while he received the unwavering support from the Progressive “House Squad,” the majority of Democrats sided with the Republican counterparts to kill off the measure
Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost (D) was the sole vote in favor of the bill, and Reps. Carlos Gimenez (R) and Frederica Wilson (D) did not vote.
Shortly after the vote, Freshman Congressman Randy Fine (R) told The Floridian that the support from Progressive Democrats for impeaching Trump was based on what he says is the utter support of Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei
“They are all in with the Ayatollah. So, Ayatollah-Omar, they are all in. They’re just standing up for their ally, Iran,” said Rep. Fine.
Rep. Fine, who campaigned on taking on the Progressive House Squad, reasserted his past claim that “Democrats hate America” and that they were “focused in protecting Muslim terrorists than they are improving the lives of Americans.”
No. We’re not there,” said Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. The Floridian asked her about the failed impeachment vote.
Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick argued that the congressional Article 1 powers needed to be protected and preserved, adding,” Every single member of Congress should be outraged that they are actually not being consulted.
The South Florida congresswoman, who was recently in Israel, said that Congress “knew” a U.S. line of attack against Iran was coming because they previously spoke about it.
Cherfilus-McCormick added that the Trump administration would be “surprised on how many people would support” the President on this issue.
