Fabian Basabe to Honor U.S. Military with Skydive on Memorial Day Weekend

In a display of American pride and patriotism, Rep. Fabian Basabe (R-Miami Beach) announced plans to skydive with the U.S. Army Golden Knights, an elite unit known for its parachute demonstrations, during the 2025 Hyundai Air & Sea Show this Memorial Day weekend in Miami Beach.

"Miami Beach is more than a place. It's a promise," Basabe said in a release. "This city has always stood with our armed forces. We welcome them with pride, with respect, and with open arms. That promise still stands. You are always welcome here, and we are forever grateful."

According to the release, the skydive "pays tribute to all who serve and have served," including American soldiers once stationed on Miami Beach during World War II.

Many U.S. soldiers were specifically stationed in Miami Beach hotels during the war. Instead of the glamour they portray today, the hotels were used as barracks and training facilities for some of America's bravest heroes.

Basabe acknowledged being a bit nervous about the leap.

"Of course I'm nervous, but I know I'm jumping with the best of the best," Basabe told The Floridian. "I've never done anything like this, but I'll go to any height to show I stand with our military, our veterans, and our law enforcement. If jumping out of a plane makes that message loud and clear, I'm all in."

The release also noted his "unwavering" support for America's bravest.

"As jets roar overhead and parachutes drift down to the shore, this Memorial Day is not just a celebration, it is a moment to reflect, remember, and recommit ourselves to those who protect our freedom," the release said.

Basabe's jump with the Golden Knights is scheduled for Saturday, May 24. He is set to land on Ocean Drive.

"This is the home of a grateful nation," Basabe added. "This jump is personal. It's a way of saying: we see you, we thank you, and we will never forget."
