Representatives Kat Cammack (R-FL) and August Pfluger (R-TX) have announced the launch of the House Republican Study Committee's (RSC) new Emerging Technologies Task Force, which will harness and apply emerging technologies, including blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and biotech.
With these new technological advances in development, Congress is examining their potential impact on national security and how they can be leveraged to America's benefit. The Task Force will work with industry leaders to meet these challenges.
"I'm excited to launch the new RSC Emerging Tech Task Force this Congress," Rep. Cammack, who will chair the Task Force, said in her press release, adding, "Together with Chairman Pfluger and our RSC colleagues, we're advancing policies that foster innovation, drive economic growth, and ensure the United States remains the global leader in emerging tech development."
"Whether the issues feature artificial intelligence, blockchain, robotics, quantum computing, 5G/spectrum, or something else, I'm grateful for the opportunity to champion this important work in the House. I'm excited to get to work," Rep. Cammack continued.
Similarly, the Republican Study Committee Chair, Rep. Pfluger, said, "I am thrilled to appoint Rep. Kat Cammack as Chair and Rep. Jay Obernolte as Vice Chair of the RSC Emerging Technologies Task Force."
"Under their leadership, the RSC won't merely participate in the tech revolution—we'll lead it, championing bold proposals that harness American innovation and outpace our competitors. This task force will position us at the forefront of comprehensive legislation addressing emerging technologies," Rep. Pfluger added.
At the beginning of March, Cammack introduced a bipartisan bill with Representative Darren Soto (D-FL) advocating for the inclusion of blockchain technology in the Department of Commerce's agenda.
Moreover, the bill would designate the Secretary of Commerce as the primary advisor to the President on blockchain policy, encompassing deployment, use, application, and competitiveness. It also establishes a Blockchain Deployment Program.
"Blockchain is an evolving technology that is changing daily. Understanding the power of blockchain technology and how we can leverage it to support our economy, national security, and more is critical," the Florida Congresswoman previously said.
