Moody, Ossoff Introduce Loan Program Bill for First Responders, Teachers

Senators Ashley Moody (R-FL) and Jon Ossoff (D-GA) have introduced a bipartisan bill that provides a new loan program for first responders and teachers. The legislation is known as the Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act of 2025. It would end upfront home purchasing costs via the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) for law enforcement, firefighters, medical first responders, and teachers.

Sen. Moody appeared on Fox News to discuss the newly introduced measure as her constituency, including first responders, is personal for her.

"Well, as you know, not only have I worked hand in hand with law enforcement over the years and seen the incredible accomplishments and sacrifices they make, I'm also the wife of a law enforcement officer. It's so important," began Sen. Moody.

The Florida senator continued, citing other states such as New York that have not been particularly helpful to the law enforcement community.

"Look at what's happening in New York right now, you have a government that's passing policies that not only doesn't support officers, but makes their jobs more dangerous," said Moody. "And when they stand up and try and say, we cannot do these jobs under these policies you're passing. What does the governor do? She fires 1,000s of them."

Finally, Moody shared that it is her intention to continue working on behalf of those in law enforcement and encourage those behind the thin blue line to move to the Sunshine State.

"I'm going to keep pressing for legislation, for wins, for those that want to serve, that want to be guardians of their communities, that love their communities, and I'm encouraging folks in those other states that they don't do that, consider moving down so state of Florida, no income tax, great weather, delivering for law enforcement, every day, and I'll keep fighting for that as a U.S. senator just as I did as Florida's Attorney General," said Moody.

Moreover, Sen. Ossoff released a statement regarding the HELPER Act as well,

“I’m working across the aisle to support Georgia’s teachers, first responders, and law enforcement officers by making homeownership more affordable for public servants who teach our kids and protect our families,” said Sen. Ossoff.

Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) have co-sponsored the bill as well.
