Congressman Byron Donalds announced on Monday that he's been endorsed by the Miami-Dade Young Republicans in his run for Florida governor.

"Thank you to the @MiamiYRs for your support! From Tea Party activist, to State Legislator, and member of Congress to candidate for Governor, I’ve remained steadfast in my conservative values. Together, we will Keep Florida Great and take the Sunshine State to new heights," Donalds said.

Byron Donalds announced his run for Florida governor in late February. He also earned the support of President Donald Trump before his official bid.

A strong ally to Donald Trump, that pickup alone already gave Donalds a fast track to becoming the state's 47th governor. Trump carried the state by 13 points over Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election and remains popular among Florida voters.

Trump also won Miami-Dade County by 11.5 points and was the first Republican presidential candidate to win Miami-Dade since 1988.

If elected governor, Donalds has promised to cut wasteful state spending, similar to the Department of Government Effiency's effort at the federal level. He also has vowed to tackle Florida's insurance problem, prioritize cryptocurrency, and boost education.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third consecutive term. Ron DeSantis' wife, Casey DeSantis, has been rumored as a potential candidate.

However, Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott downplayed her chances.

Other prospective governor candidates include former Congressman Matt Gaetz and Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson. Senate Minority Leader Jason Pizzo is seen as the likely Democratic candidate.

Already racking endorsements, Donalds announced his first official gubernatorial kickoff rally in Bonita Springs on March 28.

Donalds, 46, has represented Southwest Florida's 19th congressional district since 2021. He also served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016-2020.

Florida's gubernatorial election is set for Nov. 3, 2026.
