Debbie Mayfield Earns Endorsement from Sen. Rick Scott for SD 19

Rep. Debbie Mayfield (R-Melbourne) received an endorsement from U.S. Sen. Rick Scott for the State Senate District 19 seat on Wednesday.

"I’m proud to join President Trump in supporting my friend @debbie_mayfield for State Senate! Debbie is a principled leader who is committed to preserving the American Dream in Florida," Scott said.

Debbie Mayfield currently represents House District 32 which includes part of Brevard County. In November, she announced her run for SD 19, which also consists of part of Brevard.

A Republican primary for SD 19 is scheduled for April 1. Along with Mayfield, other GOP candidates in the field include Marcelle Adkins, Mark Lightner III, and Tim Thomas. Vance Ahrens is the only Democratic candidate.

The SD 19 general election is on June 10.

Mayfield sent a letter of resignation for HD 32 to Gov. Ron DeSantis on Jan. 22. According to the executive order, her last day is June 9.

Sen. Randy Fine currently represents SD 32. Fine is running in a special election for Florida's 6th Congressional District, once held by U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz, who was selected by President Donald Trump to serve as national security advisor.

Mayfield represented Senate District 17 from 2016-2024, a seat later won by Fine. She also served as Senate Majority Leader from 2020-2022.

Before that, Mayfield served four terms in the House of Representatives in parts of the Treasure Coast from 2008-2016.

For a moment, Mayfield's political future was in limbo.

In February, she won a legal battle at the Florida Supreme Court after ruling in her favor after the state tried to keep her from running for her old seat. Mayfield later secured endorsements from Senate President Ben Albritton, Sen. Jim Boyd (R-Bradenton), and Sen. Jay Trumbull (R-Panama City).
