Jeanette Nunez was reappointed as Chair of the Space Board Florida Board of Directors by Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to a release.

Jeanette Nunez officially served as Ron DeSantis' Lieutenant Governor of Florida from 2019 until this past Sunday. Nunez resigned from her position after being named the interim President of Florida International University (FIU) earlier this month.

Space Florida is the state's aerospace finance and development authority. The agency's mission is to increase investment activity in the state's aerospace ecosystem and maximize the capacity and capability of Florida's spaceport system, among other priorities.

"Today, Space Florida offers leading aerospace companies unrivaled experience, unmatched financial tools, and an unbeatable location for their new initiatives," the agency said. "World-class companies ranging from Northrop Grumman to Blue Origin to EVE Air Mobility have all built long-term relationships with Space Florida."

Along with Nunez, members of the Board of Directors include Florida Department of Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue, Florida Department of Environmental Secretary Alexis Lambert, and DeSantis himself.

Other Space Board members include employees from the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. In all, 9 members serve on the Space Board.

The release noted Nunez served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010-2018, serving Miami-Dade County in HD 112 (2010-2012) and HD 119 (2012-2018). She also was named Speaker Pro Tempore from 2016 to 2018.

It added as Lt. Governor, Nunez oversaw the Florida Department of Health, ran the Florida Cybersecurity Advisory Council, and served on the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking.

Nunez graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science and international relations from Florida International University. She also earned her master’s degree in public administration from the school.

Nunez's reappointment to the Space Florida Board is subject to approval by the Senate.
