Greene Helps Reignite USAID Funding Discussion After Trump Attempts Takedown

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is reminding Americans of her disdain for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) after President Donald Trump (R) appointed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as Acting Administrator.

In a recent statement, Secretary Rubio notified Congress that a review of USAID's "foreign assistance activities is underway with an eye toward potential reorganization" in America First fashion.

State Department, Greene's Messages on USAID

"The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has long strayed from its original mission of responsibly advancing American interests abroad, and it is now abundantly clear that significant portions of USAID funding are not aligned with the core national interests of the United States," the State Department said.

Later in the message released by the government entity, the Trump State Department shares its plans for USAID.

"Secretary Rubio has also now notified Congress that a review of USAID’s foreign assistance activities is underway with an eye towards potential reorganization. As we evaluate USAID and ensure it is in alignment with an America First agenda and the efforts of the State Department, we will continue to protect the American people’s interests and ensure their tax dollars are not wasted," the statement concluded.

Hours before the State Department released the above message, the USAID headquarters was shut down, per Newsweek. Rep. Greene was delighted in this notion, and helped Americans remember that she led a bill to defund USAID less than a year ago. Less than half of House Republicans voted for the proposition, and not a single Democrat was in favor.

"7 months ago, I tried to DEFUND USAID. Only 81 Republicans voted “aye” which is “yes” to my amendment to prohibit funding to USAID," said Rep. Greene. "127 Republicans and 204 Democrats voted NO to my amendment and voted to FUND USAID. I FULLY SUPPORT ELIMINATING USAID!!!"
