Luna Introduces Bill to Add Trump to Mount Rushmore

Share

Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has introduced legislation to add a carving of President Donald Trump to Mount Rushmore in Keystone, South Dakota, saying, "He will be forever remembered among the great like Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt."

The famed monument began construction in 1927 under Gutzon Borglum and continued through the 1930s. Washington's statue was dedicated in 1930, Jefferson's in 1936, Lincoln's in 1937, and Roosevelt's in 1939, but work was halted in 1941 with America's entry into World War II.

Rep. Luna's ambitious plan is described in her press release, where she explained that Trump's addition represents "the consequential accomplishments made under President Trump's leadership, including economic growth, national security, and a foreign policy that brought peace to the world and put America first."

In a personal statement, the Florida Congresswoman added, "President Trump's bold leadership and steadfast dedication to America's greatness have cemented his place in history. Mount Rushmore, a timeless symbol of our nation's freedom and strength, deserves to reflect his towering legacy—a legacy further solidified by the powerful start to his second term."

"He will be forever remembered among the great like Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt," Rep. Luna concluded.

Luna is not the first member of Congress to seek Trump's immortalization. Representative Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) introduced a bill in April that would rename Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., after Trump.

"In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump. As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing 'Welcome to Trump International Airport' as they land on American soil," Rep. Reschenthaler told Fox News.

In June, Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) sought to introduce $500 bills featuring Trump's portrait, saying in addition to their value as collector's items, "the issuance of $500 bills featuring President Trump by the Treasury offers several practical advantages. First, larger-value currency will empower Americans with the freedom of more tangible options to save and exchange goods and services. Additionally, the absence of large-denomination currency issued by the Treasury encourages Americans to rely on digital banking, which faces greater vulnerability to surveillance and censorship."
