Full Timeline: Trump's Historic Inauguration

Inauguration Day :President-elect Donald Trump is set to be sworn in today as the United States’ 47th president. 

President Trump was re-elected to the presidency after losing the 2020 elections to President Joe Biden. 

Some have qualified Trump’s return as “the greatest political comeback in American history.” 

Today, Trump will officially become the 47th US president as he participates in a series of acts traditionally associated with presidential inauguration days. 

Here is Trump’s full schedule:

5 a.m.: Security screening opens at the Capitol.

8 a.m.: An open, non-partisan service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church followed by tea with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

9:30 a.m.: Live music and opening remarks begin. Carrie Underwood’s performance of “America the Beautiful” will occur before Trump’s swearing-in.

10 a.m.: Official guests begin arriving.

12 p.m.: Abiding by the Constitution, Trump will take the presidential oath during the swearing-in ceremony and deliver his inaugural address.

The presidential departure and following events depend on the duration of Trump’s inaugural ceremony. 

Next is the president’s signing room ceremony, during which Trump is expected to signs nominations, memorandums, proclamations, or executive orders.

Following that is the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies’ (JCCIC) congressional luncheon at the Capitol’s Statuary Hall, attended by the president and vice president and their guests, Senate leaders and members of JCCIC.

Following lunch, Trump and Vance will head to the east front steps of the Capitol for the president’s review of the military troops.  

3 p.m.: The presidential parade begins, which has been relocated to the Capital One Arena due to freezing temperatures. 

After the parade, Trump will return to the White House for the Oval Office signing ceremony to perform an inaugural signing.

In the evening, Trump will conclude the inauguration day by attending and speaking at three separate balls: the Commander in Chief Ball, the Liberty Inaugural Ball and the Starlight Ball.
