"I'm honored to be elected Chair of the Florida Council of 100 and am excited to see what we will accomplish," LeMieux said in a press release."Our highly engaged group of CEOs will continue to tackle the issues identified by our previous leadership team and double down in the areas of infrastructure and resiliency on behalf of all Floridians"

George LeMieux was appointed U.S. Senator by former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist in 2009. He took over for Republican Sen. Mel Martinez and served two years before being succeeded by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio.

The 55-year-old is currently chairman of the Florida-based law firm of Gunster Yoakley & Stewart. LeMeiux was born in Fort Lauderdale and earned a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University.

FC 100 is a nonprofit organization of more than 200 CEOs who represent over 1.3 million employees across Florida.

Established in 1961 by Gov. Farris Bryant, the Council provides advice on policy issues from the business community to Florida elected and government officials of different political backgrounds to improve the "quality of life and economic well-being of all Floridians."

The Council also announced Rodney Barreto, President and CEO of Barreto Group, as Vice Chairman. Other nominations included Ignacio Felix of McKinsey and Company as Treasurer.

LeMieux will take over for Eric Silagy, former Chairman, President & CEO of Florida Power & Light.

"We are thrilled to have Senator LeMieux and Rodney Barreto's leadership and vision as we continue the progress made under previous Chair Eric Silagy," FC 100 President and CEO Michael Simas said. "We appreciate that Eric will now serve as Chair of our Foundation, which will create strong continuity and allow us to move faster."
