Trump Announces Long-Awaited Endorsement of House Speaker Mike Johnson

Share

President-elect Donald Trump has announced he is endorsing House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) as he vies to keep his role at the helm of the US House of Representatives.

President Trump endorsed Speaker Johnson just days before the latter is due to compete for reelection as House Speaker on January 3rd.

Nonetheless, Trump’s endorsement signifies Republican unity after tense days of intra-party strife due to government budget negotiations.

“Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man,” said Trump. “He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement.”

Johnson, whose speakership followed the tumultuous dethronement of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, thanked Trump via X.

“Thank you, President Trump! I’m honored and humbled by your support, as always,” said Johnson. “Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America.”

No Republicans have thus far shown interest in competing against Johnson for his position.

Republican voters have high expectations for Johnson and the Republican party given they have complete control over the national government, a reality often echoed by Republican leadership.

“The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration,” claimed Trump during his endorsement of Johnson.

Johnson’s legislative priorities include defending free markets, upholding just immigration laws, defending the traditional family and the unborn, and maintaining global peace through US strength.

Johnson’s speakership has been highlighted by instances of savvy negotiation with Democrats.

On various occasions, Johnson reached compromises with Democrat leadership to pass budget bills and foreign policy packages.

Some of the major moments of Johnson’s leadership include passing expanded aid for Ukraine and Israel, frustrating immigration reform from the Democrat-led Senate, and supporting shifting abortion regulations to the states.

Prior to joining Congress, Johnson was a lawyer for religious freedom law firm First Liberty, where he offered counsel on numerous constitutional cases impacting Americans’ religious liberties.
