Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) recently shared that he has been assigned to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and will be Chairman of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging for the 119th Congress. He will also continue to serve on the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and the Committee on the Budget.
In a statement, Sen. Scott stated his excitement about fighting "every day in Washington" for the State of Florida and its residents.
“I’m incredibly proud to continue serving the great state of Florida in the 119th Congress and be a member of key committees that will be essential to our fight to Make Washington Work for Florida families," said Sen. Scott. "As a new member of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, and member of the Armed Services, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Budget committees, I will have the opportunity to fight every day in Washington for the issues most important to Florida families."
Moreover, the Florida senator reflected on his time as both Governor of Florida and his current position in the upper chamber.
During my time as Governor of Florida and U.S. Senator, I’ve made it a priority to put Florida families first and stand with our allies around the globe who believe in our way of life and freedoms," said Scott. "As a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, I will play a central role in continuing this work and fighting for America’s interests abroad, especially standing up for Israel as it defends itself against terrorists; holding our adversaries, like Communist China, Russia and Iran fully accountable; and standing for freedom and democracy in Cuba, Venezuela and all of Latin America.
"This work will be incredibly important in rightfully positioning the United States as a beacon of freedom and hope around the globe."
Finally, Scott thanked incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) for their dedication to the committee assignment process.
“I’d like to thank Leader-elect John Thune and Senator Mike Crapo for their work with myself and my colleagues on committee assignments, ensuring that the many talented members of the Senate Republican Conference are well positioned to advance President Trump’s agenda," Scott said. "I will serve proudly and faithfully on these committees to protect the best interests of the United States and its allies domestically and abroad, fight for our military and service members, keep Americans healthy and bring fiscal sanity back to our nation.”
Rick Scott won reelection to the Senate despite a challenge from former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL). In January, he will begin his second term in the upper chamber.
