Rep. Jared Moskowitz
Earlier this week, rumors circulated about Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) possibly leading the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Trump Administration. However, Rep. Moskowitz has taken to social media to shut down the idea.
Rep. Moskowitz has noticeably offered a much more welcoming approach to the incoming Trump Administration. When Susie Wiles was announced as President-elect Trump's chief of staff, Rep. Moskowitz congratulated Wiles. Similarly, the Florida Democrat is the first Democrat to join the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus.
Having previously served as the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management from 2019 to 2021, it's no surprise that his name would be in the mix to lead FEMA. Despite the rumors, Rep. Moskowitz has confirmed that he will not be leading the agency. In fact, even though anonymous sources mentioned that his name was in the confirmation, the offer was never made.
On X, Rep. Moskowitz addressed the speculation, he wrote on social media: "I appreciate the speculation but I am staying in Congress and running for re-election. It’s an honor to serve the people of Florida’s 23rd district." Moreover, Rep. Moskowitz also shared that "nothing was ever offered."
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) appointed the Florida Democrat to serve as the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. Though the president has not appointed a Democrat to a role in his administration, he has appointed the likes of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (I), which shows that he's open to including people of other political backgrounds to his administration.
Florida has also seemingly become the epicenter of the political background, so it wouldn't be surprising to see that another Florida lawmaker would be working for the incoming administration.
CNN first reported that Rep. Moskowitz was being considered for the role, citing two anonymous sources that were allegedly knowledgeable about President-elect Trump's consideration.
