MIAMI - Miami Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera announced on Tuesday that county commissioners have officially ratified a resolution from the City of Hialeah to co-designate Palm Avenue as "President Donald J. Trump Avenue" after President Donald Trump.

"President Donald J. Trump Avenue is official in Miami-Dade County! Today, we ratified the City of Hialeah’s initiative to honor President Trump’s legacy of championing freedom and opportunity by co-designating Palm Avenue—a vital artery in our community—as "President Donald J. Trump Avenue," Cabrera said.

Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo also celebrated the announcement on social media. Previously, Hialeah Council members expressed their support for the measure in November 2023.

"I want to thank the Commissioners that supported this item, as well as the City Council of Hialeah, who had endorsed this effort from the moment President Trump visited Hialeah," Bovo said. "We appreciate the collaborated effort with the county, and look forward to the President's visit for the official unveiling."

Originally sponsored by Cabrera, the resolution will honor Trump's accomplishments as the country's 45th President, which included signing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. It also states that Trump's economic policies led to a "record-low unemployment rate" of 3.5 percent in early 2020.

In addition, the resolution mentioned Trump's accomplishments against the socialist regimes of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua. Specifically, it noted Trump's recognition of Juan Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate president in 2019 over President Nicolas Maduro.

Since then, Maduro has designated himself as President of Venezuela, including after the country's 2024 presidential election. Afterward, the United States pushed back against Maduro's victory over Independent candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, with many calling the outcome illegitimate.

Hialeah is one of the most Hispanic cities in the United States, including many from Cuba, Venezuela, and other oppressive regimes in Latin America. Miami-Dade County also is overwhelmingly Hispanic at around 70%.

As argued by Miami Mayor Francis Saurez, Trump's appeal to Hispanics resonated among its Cuban and Venezuelan communities.

The resolution also noted Trump's establishment of the United States Space Force and brokering Abraham Accords.

After serving one term in office, Trump was defeated by Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2020. Trump also lost Miami-Dade by seven points but made inroads from his 30-point deficit from his 2016 presidential run.

In a political comeback, Trump was reelected as the country's 47th president after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris on Nov. 5. In the process, Trump won Miami-Dade County by 11.5 points, a first for a Republican presidential candidate since George H.W. Bush in 1988.

Notably, Trump won Florida by 13 overall points in 2024, a 10-point increase from 2020 after narrowly winning in 2016.

"Miami-Dade County strongly supported President Trump during the election, and this designation serves as a lasting tribute to his leadership and vision for our nation," Cabrera added.
