Lara Trump Withdraws Name From Senate Consideration

Share

Lara Trump has announced that she is withdrawing her name from consideration to serve in the United States senate. The announcement comes after she previously stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee to pursue the senate seat.

Trump made the announcement on social media, writing on X, "after an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate."

With Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) being nominated for Secretary of State, his appointment leaves a vacancy that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) would have to address. In a recent press conference however President-elect Donald Trump (R) shared that he didn't expect Governor Desantis to pick Lara, adding that the Florida governor would make the right decision for the seat. After former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) announced that he would be moving on to his show The Matt Gaetz Show, attention has shifted to the likes of Governor DeSantis taking the seat. However, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) appears to be the likely candidate to fill the senatorial vacancy.

President-elect Trump's staunchest supporters had shown support for Lara Trump. Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) called Trump "an incredible messenger," adding that "there's more and more young people coming over to the Republican Part, and she's done an outstanding job being able to recruit but also connect with voters that typically wouldn't be high propensity turnout voters for the Republican Party."

Despite withdrawing her name from consideration, she noted that she's not done with politics.

"I do have a big announcement that I'm excited to share in January, so, stay tuned," she added in her social media post.

"I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment."
