Donalds Believes DOGE Will Clear Government 'Waste'

Share

President Donald Trump's (R) proposed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is amassing quite the support. Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D) has joined the Republican-led caucus, and lawmakers are prepared to hit the ground running. As Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy (R) prepare to head the agency, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) is certain that DOGE will clear out government "waste."

During an interview with Fox Business, the Florida congressman posited that DOGE will ruffle some feathers in the government, and getting the job done won't be easy, but someone's gotta do it.

"Our federal budget is littered with nothing but a bunch of waste, a bunch of fraudulent payments," he said, claiming that "everybody in Washington knows it." "When you have half of Washington that doesn't want to do anything about it, it's much easier to just continue the spending and move on while everybody gives great speeches," Rep. Donalds added.

The Florida Republican warned that the country is $36 trillion dollars in debt and that it cannot afford to go on with spending. Moreover, there are additional and unnecessary expenses such as expenses related to empty federal buildings. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic being over, some federal employees have allegedly not returned to the office.

"We pay the light bill. We pay the rents on these buildings, and they remain empty," Rep Donalds said.

When the agency was announced, DOGE was billed as an agency that would address government projects and government spending that had overstayed their welcome. In contrast to the aforementioned issues, DOGE itself does not plan to outlive the Trump Administration.

On X, Ramaswamy shared that "most government projects should come with a clear expiry [sic] date. That's why we set one for @DOGE: July 4, 2026."

Musk, who will co-lead the agency with Ramswamy, responded by writing that "the final step of @DOGE is to delete itself."
