Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared on “Hannity” on Wednesday to discuss President-elect Donald Trump’s (R) victory and how it rearranged the demographics of the Republican Party. The former president increased his voter share with nearly every demographic in the nation, especially Latinos.
The Florida senator praised President-elect Trump’s energy and attributed it to his enthusiasm for the country.
“Well, it was rewarding because we’ve seen the result. And, you know, I saw firsthand. I don't know if people fully understand how hard Donald Trump worked on behalf of America, to be honest with you. There was a moment there at the last day of the campaign, where he's like, we're going to leave nothing on the table, nothing, leave it all in the field,” said Sen. Rubio. “And he was involved not just in rally after rally after rally, but these teleconferences, these tele town halls that he was doing, and not just for his campaign. He was doing them for other candidates. In the middle of all this, it was nonstop, even through the day [Tuesday].”
Sen. Rubio went as far as to call him a “machine” that powered through to the finish line and created a new coalition that’s diverse on behalf of Republicans.
“And he deserves a tremendous amount of credit; the guy's a machine. And he does it because he loves the country, and I think that's what's most important. You put up there this thing about me saying he would fundamentally have made the Republican Party, and I think that's a very positive thing. The Republican Party now reflects the country,” said Rubio. “It is the most diverse coalition of voters ever to come together to elect someone to the White House. He had more votes now than he did when he first ran. And he did it not by appealing to people on the basis of the color of their skin or their ethnicity or their gender.”
Finally, Rubio explained that the Trump campaign brought forth this diverse coalition not through identity politics but through an all-encompassing message that Americans of all ethnicities can appreciate.
“He did it by appealing to them as working people, as hard-working people who want an economy that works again for people like them, as people that want to make sure we are a country that is safe at home, by stopping criminals from crossing our border illegally and terrorizing our communities, by appealing to them as people that want us to have a foreign policy that preserves peace, that avoids us getting into wars through strength, and by being pragmatic and ensuring that our foreign policy is geared towards prioritizing our core national interests, especially at a time in which the world is spiraling out of control. That was his campaign, and it appealed to people across the board, and you saw the results,” said Rubio.
Rubio’s colleague, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), won the state of Florida easily with a double-digit margin against former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL).
