President Trump Taps Matt Gaetz for Attorney General

Share

President Donald Trump (R) continues to add to his incoming administration. The latest nomination is Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) who will serve as his attorney general. This marks the third appointment coming from the sunshine state after Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R) and Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R).

In a statement, the president-elect announced that he would be nominating Rep. Gaetz to serve his administration as attorney general. His reasoning for appointing Rep. Gaetz to such a position is because he is  "a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice."

Rep. Gaetz has been a staunch supporter of the "America First" agenda, famously leading the charge against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) earlier this year. The effort led to Speaker McCarthy being ousted from his position and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) taking his place.

President Trump further praised the Florida Republican in his statement, noting that one of the most important topics on his agenda is "ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System." In his effort to address this concern, President Trump vows that "Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans' badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department."

Calling on the Department of Justice to reinstitute "Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency," the president-elect cited Rep. Goetz's record in the House as a clear indication of the effect he will have on the DOJ.

"On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization," the President shared, calling that Rep. Gaetz "is a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law."

"Matt will root out the systemic corruption at DOJ, and return the Department to its true mission of fighting Crime, and upholding our Democracy and Constitution."

On social media, Rep. Gaetz responded to the announcement, sharing that it would be an honor for him to serve in the Trump Administration.
