Pam Bondi Gains Bipartisan Support for Attorney General

Share

President Donald Trump's (R) pick for Attorney General is gaining praise from across the aisle. Despite being dismissed as a "Trump lackey" by some Democrats, other Democrats believe she's fit for the job. State Attorney Dave Aronberg (D) has now praised Pam Bondi (R), assuring that she will work across the aisle to solve the nation's pressing issues.

Bondi was elected Florida's Attorney General in 2010. In the election, she defeated Aronberg. At the time, Florida was the epicenter of the opioid crisis, and Bondi was tasked to combat the numerous "pill mills" that were present in the sunshine state. The crisis was so bad that an estimated 7 people died each day.

To combat the crisis, Bondi appointed Aronberg as her "drug czar," and now Aronberg is praising Bondi, saying she was "most responsible for ridding the state of Florida of destructive pill mills."

In speaking about Bondi, a Republican, appointing him, a Democrat, as her "drug czar," Aronberg says that it's an indication of her willingness to work across the aisle to confront important issues. "It really said a lot about her because she got a lot of criticism, withering criticism, from some members of her own party," Aronberg expressed, adding that Republicans were upset that she would choose a Democrat for the role.

Instead, Aronberg said that Bondi had a "strong working relationship with Democrats," and she "was not seen as a very partisan person." "She would support legislation regardless of whether it was supported by Democrats or Republicans," Aronberg added, noting that she was respected by Democrats and Republicans alike.

Earlier this month, Florida Republican Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) criticized Bondi's appointment, calling her a "Trump lackey" that had been chosen to simply do President Donald Trump's (R) bidding.

If confirmed, Bondi has addressed that she will continue to prioritize cracking down on illicit drugs.
