Moskowitz Comments on Assassination Attempt Against his Life

Share

Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D), who won reelection this week, has announced that there was a potential plot on his life. Rep. Moskowitz was appointed to the task force on the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump (R). In his response to the attempt at his life, Rep. Moskowitz is sounding the alarm on heightened security for congressional members.

The news of an assassination attempt against Rep. Moskowitz comes the same week that another plot against President Trump was uncovered. According to Manhattan federal prosecutors, the Iranian government ordered an operative to assassinate President Trump before the 2024 presidential election. Prosecutors have charged Farhad Shakeri with murder-for-hire and providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Rep. Moskowitz, who is on the task force that is investigating the assassination attempt at President Trump's life earlier this year, has just announced that there was an assassination attempt at his own life.

In a statement released on social media, Rep. Moskowitz commented that he was notified by the Margate Police Department the day before the election about the assassination attempt. "The individual in question was arrested not far from my home; he is a former felon who was in possession of a rifle, a suppressor, and body armor," he shared.

"Found with him was a manifesto that, among other things, included antisemitic rhetoric and only my name on the 'target' list," he further explained.

Both Republicans and Democrats have commented on the rise of antisemitism stemming from the war between Israel and Hamas. This week, Israeli soccer fans were attacked by "antisemitic squads," which Rep. Moskowitz denounced.

"As someone who was appointed to the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, I understand the failures and importance of fixing the protection of our current and future Commander-in-Chief and Vice President," Rep. Moskowitz expressed in his statement. "I am deeply worried about Congressional member security and the significant lack thereof."
