President-elect Donald Trump (R) has officially chosen Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) to be his Secretary of State. This was rumored to be the case earlier this week, but it has now been confirmed by President-elect Trump himself.
Trump released a statement saying Sen. Rubio will be a "strong advocate" and a "true friend to our allies" as the leader of the State Department.

"It is my Great Honor to announce that Senator Marco Rubio, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The United States Secretary of State. Marco is a Highly Respected Leader, and a very powerful Voice for Freedom," said Trump. "He will be a strong Advocate for our Nation, a true friend to our Allies, and a fearless Warrior who will never back down to our adversaries. I look forward to working with Marco to Make America, and the World, Safe and Great Again!"
Furthermore, Rubio added that under Trump's leadership, the administration will deliver "peace through strength" around the world.

According to NBC News, aĀ TrumpĀ ally said Sen. Rubio fits in the Secretary of State position because he's a good mixture of "MAGA" but a little more "hawkish" than the incoming presidential ticket.
āWhile Marco is a little more hawkish than the incoming president and vice president, heās actually not as far away from them as many people might assume at first blush,ā aĀ TrumpĀ allyĀ said.Ā āHeās become far more aligned with the president on issues regarding tariffs. He has a similar stand on the China issue and he even voted against the last round of Ukraine funding.ā
Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) will now have the opportunity to choose Rubio's replacement in the upper chamber. He could very well choose himself.
