Farah & Farah, Orlando's leading personal injury law form, announced that it had filed a race discrimination and relation lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of India McCoy against The Country Club of Orlando, Inc.

India McCoy served as a line cook at The Country Club of Orlando from February 2023 until she was terminated in April 2024. McCoy, argues that during her employment she was subjected to a hostile work environment that entailed racial discrimination. This allegedly included incidents where she was the target of racially derogatory remarks. One incident involved her discovering a noose in the women's room. She argues that her supervisors ignored and dismissed her concerns, and she alleges that her employment was terminated in retaliation for her objections to the discrimination that she experienced.

During a press conference held by Farah & Farah, Adeah "AJ" Lakraj, an attorney representing McCoy, commented that "this is not just about one individual. It speaks to the broader issue of racial discrimination at The Country Club, and frankly, throughout the state and throughout the country." "Discrimination, retaliation, and creating a hostile work environment is illegal. Employers must be held accountable in creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive work environment," Lakraj added.

“This case highlights the persistent issue of racial discrimination in the workplace that, sadly, continues to affect hardworking individuals like Ms. McCoy. No one should have to endure a hostile work environment in the workplace or face retaliation for standing up against discrimination," he argued during the press conference.

In the lawsuit, McCoy is seeking back pay, front pay, compensatory and punitive damages, declaratory relief, and attorneys' fees. The lawsuit also calls for the court to declare The Country Club of Orlando’s actions illegal and to reinstate Ms. McCoy or award her front pay.
