Trump and Harris Clash Over September Jobs Report Data

Share

President Donald Trump is criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris’ economic policies following the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) September jobs report.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris’ administration called the September report “great news.”

“With today’s report, we’ve created 16 million jobs, unemployment remains low, and wages are growing faster than prices,” said President Biden.

According to the report, September saw the creation of over 250,000 jobs and a 4.1% unemployment rate.

President Trump, however, underscored manufacturing and native-employment details from the report.

Trump emphasized the loss of thousands of manufacturing jobs and the expansion of migrant employment at the expense of native-born Americans.

The Biden-Harris administration, alleged Trump, has caused the loss of  “34,000 manufacturing jobs in just the past two months,” adding that “Harris’ open border policies have destroyed 825,000 jobs for native-born Americans.”

Other conservative lawmakers have similarly criticized Biden-Harris economic policies by highlighting broader economic trends obscured by the September jobs report.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) explained that, while September's 4.1% unemployment rate was lower than August’s 4.2% rate, the unemployment rate is higher than last years’ 3.8% rate.

“The Biden-Harris administration and its friends in the press want you to only see the top-line jobs number – but that doesn’t tell the whole story,” said Senator Scott via press release. “Over the year, and since last month, full-time jobs are down and more people are having to take on multiple jobs and part-time jobs to get by.”

Additionally, Senator Scott outlined how month over month, multiple job holders and part-time employees have increased by 412,000 and nearly one million, respectively.

“I won’t stop fighting like hell every day to fix the havoc the Biden-Harris administration has brought on folks’ lives and bring fiscal sanity back to Washington so the American economy works for hardworking Floridians again,” concluded Scott.

Political clashes over the economy are expected to continue, as it is a crucial issue for a significant majority of US voters.

Current polling suggests voters slightly prefer Trump over Harris on the economy.
