Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) spoke on the death of Hamas operations leader Yahya Sinwar, infamously known as the architect of the October 7 attack, which led to the death of over 1,000 Israeli civilians in 2023. Sinwar was perhaps the most wanted man in Gaza, and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) did not even know they had neutralized him after a firefight with opposing forces.
The Israeli military confirmed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar had been killed in battle. The IDF released a statement announcing that Sinwar had died on Wednesday after a "year-long pursuit."
The statement also noted that "in recent weeks, IDF and ISA forces, under the command of the Southern Command, have been operating in the southern Gaza Strip, following IDF and ISA intelligence that indicated the suspected locations of senior members of Hamas."
The Florida senator included his daily update on the hostage situation but included an address of the Hamas leader’s death in a social media post.
“378 days ago, Iran-backed Hamas terrorists led by this monster kidnapped Americans and Israelis,” said Sen. Scott. “Today, it’s heartbreaking to think many are still held hostage, but I’m glad to know the world is a safer place. Florida stands with Israel in your fight to eliminate Hamas and bring every hostage home!”
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle similarly celebrated Sinwar’s death.
US Representative Debbie Wasserman Shultz (D-FL) claimed Sinwar nefariously “murdered Gazans and used human shields for years” while reaffirming “Israel has the right to defend itself against terrorists like Sinwar who threaten its people with death and destruction.”
Former IDF volunteer US Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) commended the IDF for bringing Sinwar “to justice,” adding the latter “had the blood of innocent Americans and Israelis on his hands.”
President Joe Biden (D) has announced that he will be speaking with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “to discuss the pathway for bringing the hostages home to their families, and for ending this war once and for all, which has caused so much devastation to innocent people.”
