This morning, Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) joined the Miami City Commission in unveiling a $3.5 million investment in new affordable housing for senior citizens.
In a statement, Rep. Salazar noted that the “funding will go towards the Flagler Affordable Senior Housing Project.” This effort provides “safe, beautiful, and affordable living to seniors.”
“That is the way we treat those who paid and gave our community years of labor and contributions to the Social Security system,” she concluded.
The funding will be used to construct the aforementioned Flagler Affordable Senior Housing Project, which is a Community Funding Project that was requested and approved in the Fiscal Year 2024 Consolidated Appropriations Act. Rep. Salazar supported that legislation, and the project is now expected to add a significant number of new housing units for seniors in the community.
In office, the Florida Republican has prided herself on pursuing initiatives that would address the affordability and safe housing crisis.
Rep. Salazar introduced the Home Advantage for American Families Act, which would increase the real estate sales tax for foreign buyers, ensuring Americans are not priced out of the market; she introduced the Shelter Act, which would provide a tax credit to working families and small businesses to invest in disaster mitigation improvements to make their homes and property more resilient; and she supported the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, which would increase the low-income housing tax credit from 9% to 12.5%. It also authorizes State and local agencies to issue tax credits for lower-income housing supply to developers.
