October 7th Anniversary Prompts Bipartisan Support for Israel...With Some Exceptions

Share

US lawmakers have united in an unusual bipartisan show of support for Israel as it commemorates the one year anniversary of Hamas’ brutal attacks on Israeli civilians.

Israel subsequently responded to Hamas’ attacks by invading the Gaza strip and vowing to completely dismantle and eliminate Hamas.

Democrat and Republican lawmakers alike commemorated the horrid attacks, which saw the mass killing and rape of countless Israeli citizens and over 200 individuals kidnapped, of which 101 remain unaccounted for.

Ex-Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) volunteer US Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) published a solemn statement reaffirming his commitment to Israel and rescuing the hostages.

“Today, on the one year anniversary of the October 7 attacks against Israel, we stand in solidarity and say never again,” said Representative Mast. “To this day, Americans are still being held by Hamas and the world needs to know that if an American is taken—an American will bring them home.”

Similarly, US Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) assured he “will never forget” Hamas’ “viciousness and brutality.”

Democrat presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris also deplored Hamas’ attacks, adding that she is committed to supporting Israel’s self-defense right.

“I will always ensure Israel has what it needs to defend itself against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists like Hamas,” said Vice President Harris. “My commitment to the security of Israel is unwavering.”

However, some Democrat lawmakers criticized Israel, instead of condemning Hamas’ attacks, for its military activities in Gaza.

US Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) condemned Israel and the US, accusing ithe former of committing “war crimes” in Gaza and the latter for financing them.

“The war crimes being committed by the government of Israel are being funded by our own country while families at home suffer from displacement due to hurricanes and growing poverty,” said Representative Tlaib. “Our country is obsessed with war and destruction.”

While continuing to fight Hamas in Gaza, Israel has also recently shifted military assets to Northern Israel to diminish Hezbollah’s capacity to inflict harm on Israeli civilians.

Over the last few days, Israel has eliminated crucial Hezbollah weapons’ stockpiles and killed senior Hezbollah leaders, including its top leader Hassan Nasrallah.
