Mills Demands Audit of FEMA In Wake of Helene and Milton

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas' claim that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is out of money seems hollow after Inspector General Joseph Cuffari found the agency has untapped billions. Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) discussed the conflicting claims in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Evening Edit, saying an audit of FEMA was entirely justified in the wake of two devastating hurricanes.

Host Elizabeth MacDonald began the segment by noting that the Biden-Harris Administration has already started accusing former President Donald Trump of spreading "misinformation" about the federal government's response to the storms.

Rep. Mills postulated the political motive of this turnabout from FEMA having no money to suddenly having it, saying, "I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that it was Americans helping Americans embarrassing his administration the same way I did in Afghanistan in '21 or Israel in '23 or in Haiti in '24. The list goes on," referencing his personal exploits rescuing Americans trapped in those countries during their respective crises.

"I spent five days out in North Carolina delivering over 23,000 pounds of different supplies and doing search and rescue and medevacs, and I did not see a single FEMA truck the entire time. So, this is not misinformation. This is not propaganda. This is from me on the ground, witnessing it myself," Rep. Mills added, further condemning the Biden-Harris Administration's attempts to decry claims of FEMA's slowness.

MacDonald suggested an audit of FEMA was necessary, which the Florida Congressman agreed, "but we also have to acknowledge that since Biden has taken office, we also have not had a single Department of Defense (DOD) audit. So keep that in mind, it is not just under [the Department of Homeland Security], but also the DOD and others who fail to actually be able to even pass their own independent audits or their own internal audits, for that matter."

"And so yes, we have to be good stewards of taxpayers' money. We have to ensure that disaster relief funds get to the people in need, and that is why, today, with Mercury One and other charities, we are able to drop supplies to Seminole County to get things to children like a teddy bear to hug who just lost everything; to get food, water, toiletries, and generators. We have to get the solutions, and it has to start with auditing the Department of Homeland Security and this administration," Mills concluded.
