MIAMI - Miami Mayor Francis Suarez issued a statement Tuesday condemning the Islamic Republican Iran for launching a missile attack against Israel.
"I unequivocally condemn today’s missile attack on Israel by Iran, a committed adversary of the U.S. and peace throughout the world. Iran’s brazen attack occurs as we are about to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the brutal October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack on Israeli civilians," Suarez said on social media.
"It also occurs against the backdrop of rising global antisemitism. We should see this attack and its timing as another attempt by Iran to elicit paralyzing fear among free people of all nations," Suarez added.
In the months following Oct. 7 in which Hamas killed 1200 Israelis, antisemitic incidents in the United States jumped 360%. In particular, Jewish students have felt threatened from antisemitism on college campuses in America.
According to reports, Iran fired at least 180 missiles into the Jewish State on Tuesday. The attack marks another escalation between both countries in the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war.
Iran's retaliatory strike follows Israel's attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon last week, which killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut. Nasrallah helped front Hezbollah's war against Israel in 2006 and served as its secretary general since 1992 before his death.
The strike also could be one of many, as Israel has vowed to continue striking Hezbollah until its citizens near the Lebanon border can return home safely.
Backed by Iran, Hezbollah has been firing rockets into Israel since the war in Gaza began. The terrorist group also has promised to keep striking Israel until a ceasefire in Gaza is reached with Hamas, also supported by Iran.
