DeSantis' Latest Hurricane Milton Updates

Gov. Ron DeSantis and Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Kevin Guthrie, are working with President Joe Biden and FEMA to open up temporary sheltering assistance (TSA) for Floridians displaced by Milton. This would allow those without a home to stay in a FEMA-approved hotel or shelter for up to (potentially) 6 months, depending on the person's situation and the FEMA agreement.

Florida officials are currently waiting for FEMA to approve the request.

"We absolutely anticipate that will get approved," said Gov. DeSantis at his second of three press conferences on Friday.

As of 3 p.m. Friday, nearly half of all accounts without power were restored, meaning that of the 4 million experiencing outages in Milton's aftermath, nearly 1.8 million have regained power.

DeSantis attributes this to the staggering 50,000 linemen pre-staged ahead of Milton, telling onlookers at his third press conference, "The power restoration, given you had 4 million plus, is going to be more rapid than I think any similar outage in the history of these hurricanes."
