Harris in Eye of Hurricane as She Picks Fights With Trump, DeSantis Over Hurricane Milton Preparations

Share

Democrat Presidential nominee Kamala Harris is embroiling herself in political controversies with leading conservatives as Hurricane Milton barrels towards Florida.

Vice President Harris first clashed with former President Donald Trump after the latter criticized her response to late September’s Hurricane Helene.

Now, Harris has sparked a feud with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis after calling him “selfish” for allegedly refusing to answer her phone calls for Helene recovery efforts.

"People are in desperate need of support right now and playing political games at this moment in these crisis situations…is just utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish," Harris said. "It is about political gamesmanship, instead of doing the job that you took an oath to do, which is to put the people first."

Governor DeSantis fired back, demeaning Harris’ comments as an attempted politicization of Hurricane Milton.

“We’ve been on emergency footing around the clock, two weeks straight,” DeSantis told Fox News. “That’s been my sole focus. My focus has not been on dealing with Kamala Harris. I saw the news report. I didn’t know she tried to contact me. It’s not about you, Kamala. It’s about the people of Florida.”

Earlier this week, Harris attacked President Trump for his claims President Joe Biden and her were not doing enough to help impacted Floridians.

Trump took to X to criticize Vice President Harris’ hurricane recovery efforts as “the worst storm response in history.”

“THE RESPONSE TO THE HURRICANE BY LYIN’ KAMALA HARRIS IS NOW RATED THE WORST STORM RESPONSE IN HISTORY,” said Trump. “NORTH CAROLINA, GEORGIA, FLORIDA, SOUTH CAROLINA, TENNESSEE, ALABAMA, and others, will respond by VOTING FOR TRUMP.”

Harris denied Trump’s claims, alleging they distorted reality and confused those impacted by the hurricane and seeking help.

“There is a lot of disinformation being pushed by Donald Trump about the aid available to survivors of Helene. It is extraordinarily irresponsible,” claimed Harris. “I urge people to apply for the many resources they are entitled to from FEMA.”

Last week, FEMA officials announced funding shortages for hurricane recovery aid.

Subsequently, the Trump campaign published information revealing FEMA recently doubled its funding for non-governmental entities providing housing assistance to immigrants apprehended by the Department of Homeland Security.

FEMA upped its financing of such entities by around $300 million, from $363.8 in 2023 to $650 million in 2024.
