The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been in hot water after it was found to have used funds for illegal alien resettlement, leaving little available for Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) sent an outraged letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas demanding answers for this apparent insult to Americans impacted by the storm.

Secretary Mayorkas announced Tuesday that FEMA "does not have the funds to make it through the (hurricane) season," which prompted the presidential campaign of former President Donald Trump to publish financial records indicating hundreds of millions of dollars were spent by FEMA on illegal aliens.

Rep. Gaetz said in his letter that his "office has been in contact with whistleblowers in numerous emergency-management functions at the federal, state, and local levels, and they all point to the same critical mismanagement issues. FEMA has wasted taxpayer funds, misappropriated funds, and left other federal, state, and local responders without deployment orders on the ground."

Additionally, the Florida Congressman claimed that FEMA members were "deployed by the Department of Defense to North Carolina and have sat idle, waiting for FEMA. We have confirmed FEMA employees deployed, on the clock, awaiting orders in hotels. FEMA pre-disaster aid was withheld, exacerbating the emergency. It is also public that NGOs have purchased airline tickets for migrants through the use of FEMA funds."

"The aftermath of Hurricane Helene is a major disaster, and your waste and unpreparedness are leaving Americans in distress—unable to access food, water, or medicine—and expecting help, with none coming," Rep. Gaetz said harshly.

Moreover, he demanded answers by October 11th to outline how much of FEMA and its Disaster Relief Fund's (DRF) Fiscal Year 2024 budget was spent on illegal aliens versus American citizens and what policies and regulations were circumvented to justify these expenditures.

Gaetz's letter follows the BARRIER Act he introduced to Congress with Representatives Troy Nehls (R-TX) and Randy Weber (R-TX). The act would deny federal funds to non-government organizations (NGOs) and non-profits that allow migrants to enter the country.
