Donalds Accuses Harris of Politicizing Hurricane Milton

Share

Hurricane Milton made landfall last night near Siesta Key, Florida, leaving a destructive path. Casualties are being reported, cleanup efforts are underway, and Florida is attempting to bounce back after two hurricanes struck the state. As lawmakers join forces to provide additional support, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) is calling out Vice President Kamala Harris (D), accusing her of having "politicized" Hurricane Milton.

Shortly before the hurricane made landfall, reports circulated wherein Vice President Harris criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R). In her comments, she had mentioned that she had attempted to reach out to the governor, but he was refusing her calls.

President Joe Biden (D) was asked about the governor allegedly refusing her calls during a press conference on Wednesday. In response to the claim, President Biden said, "All I can tell you is I’ve talked to Governor DeSantis. He's been very gracious. He thanked me for all we've done. He knows what we're doing, and I think that's important."

Rep. Donalds is now defending the Florida governor, writing on social media that "Kamala knows her response to Helene was disqualifying, so she politicized Milton EVERY STEP OF THE WAY."

"She attacked members of Congress as we prepared our communities with life-saving information. She attacked our governor as he prepared our state. She staged phone calls and briefings for optics," he expressed.

Saying that Vice President Harris "is not a serious leader," he also accused the presidential hopeful of attempting to "weaponize this storm to save her campaign." Declaring that Florida does not politicize storms, the Florida Republican admitted that the state would bounce back quickly and it would continue putting "the AMERICAN PEOPLE FIRST."

The hurricane resulted in over 150 tornadoes, and over 3 million people are currently without power. Though damage was widespread, and water levels are expected to rise in the coming days, the governor remains hopeful that this isn't the "worst-case scenario."
