Former President Donald Trump announced he will not agree to a second presidential debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.
President Trump’s announcement follows his second presidential debate performance this year, his first against Vice President Harris.
Trump alleged he had no need to commit to another debate given polls demonstrate he outperformed Harris in the last debate.
After their last debate, Harris’ team immediately challenged Trump to a second debate. Trump did not respond to the challenge until today.
Post-debate polls have generally maintained pre-debate figures, with Harris leading Trump by a slim margin that winnows in crucial swing-voter states.
“Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately called for a Second Debate,” said Trump.
“There will be no third debate,” he added.
Trump and Harris have resumed campaigning after pausing for the debate and commemoration of the September 11th Twin Towers attacks.
Trump hosted a rally in Tucson, Arizona.
Recent polls demonstrate Trump enjoys a slim lead over Harris in the swing state, which he lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by ten thousand votes.
Concomitantly, Harris campaigned in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she attacked Trump’s abortion policies.
“On Tuesday night, Donald Trump refused to say that he would veto a national abortion ban,” said Harris. “He is the architect of this health care crisis.”
During Tuesday’s debate, Harris depicted Trump as a pro life president who would promote a national ban on abortion.
Trump denied such an idea, claiming it was unnecessary given the Supreme Court returned the abortion issue to the states.
“I'm not signing a ban. And there's no reason to sign a ban. Because we've gotten what everybody wanted. Democrats, Republicans and everybody else and every legal scholar wanted it to be brought back into the states,” said Trump.
