State Representative McFarland Releases New Ad as Election Day Looms

State Representative Fiona McFarland (R-73) released a new, 30-second advertisement entitled “Service,” which will air in Sarasota County on Tuesday. The ad highlights State Rep. McFarland’s military service in the Navy, as well as her stint in the state legislature.

“She served on guided missile destroyers, then took Tallahassee by storm,” the ad begins. It then proceeds to spotlight McFarland’s legislative history. This includes voting on SB 7052, which aimed to improve the property insurance crisis in the Sunshine State by signing off on aggressive reforms to keep insurance companies in check.

Moreover, State Rep. McFarland voted to keep Sarasota teachers compensated with her votes on HB 5001, which vouched for $7.3 million in pay raises and also voted for SB 1954 and 2514 to provide $200 million for environmental protection.

Finally, State Rep. McFarland voted for HB 7074 and HB 3 to support families protect children “by providing families more access to childcare and shielding minors from the mental health dangers of social media.”

“Fiona is one of the most respected legislators in Tallahassee because she is unafraid to tackle the difficult issues that many shy away from,” said Max Goodman, McFarland’s spokesman who produced the television spot. “It’s why she has garnered so much support in Sarasota County from people of all political stripes who appreciate her continued service to her country and the relentless diligence and authenticity she brings to the job.”

McFarland graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2008 and served aboard naval warships in the Western Pacific and also worked in the Pentagon. She also holds an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill (North Carolina University).

According to Ballotpedia, McFarland ran unopposed in the primary cycle. She will go against Derek Reich (D) on Nov. 5^th in the general election cycle. In 2022, McFarland defeated Reich by an approximate percentage of 56 to 44. In 2020, she won by about 10 points as well.
