US Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rick Scott (R-FL) are condemning a resolution the Palestinian mission to the United Nations (UN) is set to present next week at the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

Palestinian diplomats are reportedly expected to submit a UNGA resolution that would call for sanctioning Israeli officials and the departure of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from ‘Palestinian territories’.

Senators Rubio and Scott rejected the resolution, calling it a “disgrace that rewards terrorism.”

Next week’s UNGA is expected to feature contentious debate over the Israel-Hamas war, which nears its one year anniversary.

In a statement released by Rubio’s office, the senators decried the potential passage of the Palestinian resolution.

“As we approach the one-year anniversary of the barbaric terrorist attack by Hamas and affiliated Palestinian terrorist groups against innocent Israeli civilians, which involved murder, mutilation, and sexual violence, the international community must unequivocally unite against this evil, one-sided effort to delegitimize Israel,” reads the statement.

The UNGA comes as US State Department Secretary Antony Blinken travels to the Middle-East for the tenth time to attempt to broker peace talks.

State Department officials explain Secretary Blinken travel to Egypt to meet with “Egyptian officials to discuss ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza that secures the release of all hostages.”

President Joe Biden’s administration has been pressuring Israel to make concessions that will prompt Hamas into a ceasefire agreement.

Conservative lawmakers have rejected such moves as they have rejected the Palestinian UN mission’s latest resolution.

“Instead of proposing biased and counter-productive initiatives, which will do nothing to advance a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians, the international community must focus its energy and resources on ensuring Hamas and other terrorist groups are completely destroyed,” continue the Senators.

The Senators finish by encouraging the US and allies to “remain firm to ensure every single hostage held by these terrorists is safely returned to their loved ones.”
