Maduro Warned Against Arrest of Opposition Leaders by Florida Legislators

Share

Venezuelan Dictator Nicolas Maduro recently issued arrest warrants for opposition party leader Edmundo Gonzalez by way of his infamous Attorney General, Tareek William Saab.

Gonzalez has refused to accept Dictator Maduro’s recent claims of electoral victory in Venezuela’s latest presidential elections.

Maduro, despite facing international pressure to submit to overwhelming evidence of his sound defeat during the last elections, has refused to relinquish his hold on power.

American lawmakers are warning Maduro and his allies will be persecuted if they act on their recently issued arrest warrants for Gonzalez, who the US has recognized as the rightful winner of Venezuela’s elections.

US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) alleged Maduro would suffer tremendously were he to prosecute Gonzalez.

“This is a line in the sand, and if Maduro and his buddies cross it, there will be hell to pay,” said Senator Scott. “The world is watching, and so are the people of Venezuela. It’s clear Edmundo won, and Maduro is scared to death of the fight for freedom and democracy that’s happening all across Venezuela.”

Scott continued, suggesting Congress pass his BOLIVAR Act, which is only pending approval in the US House of Representatives.

The BOLIVAR Act would prohibit the US government from doing business with companies linked to Maduro.

Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) similarly condemned Maduro’s arrest warrant against Gonzalez as he retweeted opposition leader Maria Corina Machado’s pushback against the warrant.

Venezuela’s elections follow failed negotiations between Venezuela’s government and President Joe Biden’s administration over electoral assurances in exchange for sanctions relief.

Despite promises of allowing free and fair elections, the Venezuelan regime barred opposition leader Machado from participating in the same.

However, Machado invested her political capital into former Venezuelan Ambassador Edmundo Gonzalez, who subsequently won the presidential elections.

Yet, despite enormous international pressure, Maduro is as defiant as ever and does not appear to be considering a peaceful transition of power any time soon.
