Tonight marks the first debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Representative Laurel Lee (R-FL) discussed Trump's debate strategy during a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, saying the former president's primary objective is to "shine a light" on Harris's record, which she said was full of "radical positions."
The Wall Street Journal suggested Trump's main lines of attack would be the economy and inflation, the border crisis, and Harris's time as a prosecutor in California, "basically painting her as weak on crime."
"I think that is exactly what President Trump is going to do tonight, [which] is shine a light on her past record, which is crystal-clear, the radical positions that she has held on criminal justice, on immigration, on the border. This is something that President Trump knows, and he knows how to do, right?" said Rep. Lee.
Additionally, the Florida Congresswoman suggested that the border "is a subject that President Trump knows very well and that he will be prepared tonight to walk through these policy positions and hold [Harris] accountable to the American public, and that is exactly what we need. Kamala Harris has been avoiding scrutiny and media interviews. She has been avoiding actually having to explain and be held accountable for these dramatic and total shifts in policy positions that she is trying to sell to the American people today."
Other Republicans have called out Harris for her apparent flip-flop on the border crisis, having recently pledged to beef up border security, including the construction of Trump's wall.
"Americans are used to hearing many empty promises from candidates seeking their votes. It is important to remember that actions speak louder than words. While she may now be vocalizing support for a border wall in response to political backlash, the reality is that Border Czar Harris has spent the entirety of her term supporting policies that have created this crisis and has repeatedly thwarted efforts to require her Administration to enforce the rule of law and secure the border. Under her watch, more than 10 million illegal aliens have entered and been released into our country, including many on the terror watch list. It is clear that VP Harris will say anything to try to get elected," Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) told The Floridian.
"She's been the border czar for three years; why didn't she finish building it already? If she really supports the border wall, why did she call it a "stupid use of money" and "un-American"? Her record is clear, and no amount of election-year lying tactics from the Democrats will change that," Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) told us.
