'Grandpa' Scott Urges Senate to Immediately Pass his IVF Bill

Share

Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) has held many titles in his political career. However, this week, he reminded his colleagues that his favorite title so far has been "grandpa." As a "grandpa," the Florida senator is seeking support for the immediate passage of his Increasing Values for Families (IVF) with HSAs Act. Senator Scott gave an impassioned plea on the senate floor for his colleagues to support his IVF bill.

Senator Scott's bill would help individuals and families better plan and pay for medical expenses like in vitro fertilization (IVF). It would decouple Health Savings Accounts (HSA) from high-deductible health plans, and it would double the current contribution limits on HSAs from $4,3000 to $8,600 for individuals. For families, it would increase from $8,550 to $17,100.

Senate Democrats blocked the bill's passage, and Florida Rep. Kat Cammack (R) is leading the IVF with HSAs Act in the House.

In his comments, Senator Scott shared that he backs IVF "100%," adding that his daughter is using IVF "to grow her family."

"The truth about IVF is that it is one of the few unifying policies almost all Democrats and Republicans agree with," he said." The reason why he backs IVF is because he calls it a measure "that helps bring beautiful babies into the world and I'm fighting to make it more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans."

With his bill, Senator Scott assures that "millions of Americans will be able to save more money in tax free accounts to pay for medical expenses like IVF."

For this to happen, Senator Scott notes that both Republicans and Democrats must get "serious about ensuring opportunities for families."

Both Senator Scott and Rep. Cammack introduced their respective bills earlier this year. As well, they led a bicameral resolution expressing their full support for IVF. President Donald Trump (R) has also shared his support for IVF.
