Vice President Kamala Harris has been criticized by Republicans for her apparent flip-flop on border policy, including the building of a wall. Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) discussed the switch in comments to The Floridian, saying Republicans will push the duplicity of Harris's recent statements.
"The Democrats right now have a crisis with the electorate because the electorate wants a secure border, and they know that the border was secure under the Trump policies," Rep. Gaetz began, explaining this shift in border messaging from the other party.
Additionally, the Florida Congressman pointed out that "at the front end of the Biden-Harris Administration, they owned the dissolution of the Trump policies which were working."
As a result, Rep. Gaetz said, "We are going to deliver that message, particularly in the swing states where they are feeling the impact of illegal immigration more and more."
The Floridian asked Gaetz if he believed the American people would buy this change in tune from the Harris campaign. Still, he replied that this was an insincere gesture from the Democrats to win the election, throwing in a jab at the attacks made on Project 2025 by Democrats.
"Well, the American voters know the Trump policies worked, and so now you are seeing Vice President Harris feign a nod toward those policies, but at the end of the day, she wants to abolish [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)], she wants to decriminalize border crossings, and she wants these people to have a path to citizenship so they can vote. That is ultimately Kamala Harris's Project 2025, an open border with illegal immigrants voting," Gaetz concluded.
Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) similarly denounced Harris's flip-flop, telling The Floridian at the end of August, "The American people demand safety and security! If Donald Trump's border wall wasn't so popular with the American people, Kamala wouldn't be lying about supporting it right now. Americans know Donald Trump is the only one who delivered on his promise to make America safe and secure, and he'll do it again."
