With less than 2 months before the 2024 presidential election cycle comes to a close, the ever-embattle Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) has endorsed Imtiaz “Andy” Mohammad (pictured with Andrew Gillum) over centrist State Senate Senator Jason Pizzo (D).
If you are a Republican voter in East Broward County and have never heard of Mr. Mohammed, then ask your Democrat neighbor about him.
According to public records and his social media postings, as of a couple of years ago, Mohammed was a diehard progressive Democrat who all but swore allegiance to the House “Squad” led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The BREC’s current and official “Voter Guide” shows accused antisemite Mohammed as the group’s choice to square off against the moderate Sen. Pizzo.
According to a member of the BREC, who asked that we keep her or his name out of this article, the move to endorse Mohammed was allegedly made unilaterally by Chairman Chris Marino.
"They have embarrassed the rest of the executive board and committee," said the source.
During his run for Congress as a Democrat in 2020, Mohammad expressed his unwavering support for congressional Democratic Socialists Sen. Bernie Sanders and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib,Ilhan Omar, and Ayanna Presley.
"I'm with them," was stated on the faces of the House "Squad" that Mohammad posted.
In response to the BREC endorsing Mohammed, Sen. Pizzo questioned the endorsement of the “far left perennial candidate.”
“They either knew, or should’ve known, who they are endorsing. After voters make their picks for President, U.S. Senate and Congress, next on the ballot comes State Senate, for the high honor and duty to represent 575,000 residents,” said Sen. Pizzo in a statement to The Floridian.” My opponent doesn’t live in the district, has long been a far left perennial candidate, flagrantly violates campaign rules, and has expressed genuine distaste for our country.”

The ”distaste” Sen. Pizzo is referring to is a past statement Mohammed made where he called Americans “uneducated.”
“People say in America, ‘America runs on Dunkin Donuts. America run(sic) on hate, that is my statement. We run this country on hate. Media is the biggest problem in this country, and American people are the most uneducated nation in the world,” said Mohammad
It appears that in endorsing Mohammed, the Broward GOP may have made his case that Americans were dumb or "uneducated."
