Biden Official Warns of Imminent Catastrophic Oil Spill Largely Ignored by Media

US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking is calling for action in the face of what could be the largest oil spill in history.

Special Envoy Lenderking spoke to Middle-Eastern media about the unfolding crisis in the Red Sea after Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists struck oil tanker SOUNION.

Lenderking alleged the SOUNION could begin spilling oil within ten days given damage from the Houthis has caused fires to rage onboard.

“We are dealing with a ticking time bomb that must be dealt with,” said Lenderking. “This catastrophe would be hugely damaging to what is a pristine waterway and vital international one.”

US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported the Greek-owned MV DELTA SOUNION, which carries approximately one million oil barrels, is currently in flames following Houthi attacks and “threatens the possibility of a major environmental disaster.”

If the SOUNION begins spilling oil, the total amount spilled could make it the worst oil spill this decade and fifth worst in history, according to statistics from the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation (ITOPF).

Since Hamas’ attacks on Israel, Houthi forces have executed daily drone attacks against ships believed to have direct or indirect links to the US, Israel, or any of their allies.

US forces have actively intercepted such attacks.

Most recently, the US Navy Destroyer USS Carney homeported after an eight-month deployment in which it engaged Houthi forces 51 times. US Navy ships have not seen such engagement since World War Two.

US Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rick Scott (R-FL), along with Senate colleagues, drafted a resolution honoring the USS Carney and its crew.

“The American people are eternally grateful for the USS Carney’s officers and crew for their acts of bravery in protecting both our allies and our interests in the Middle East,” said Senator Rubio.

The USS Carney intercepted Houthi missiles, an Iranian ballistic missile, rescued commercial shipping vessels, and engaged in additional security-related operations in the Red Sea.

“Your historic deployment to the Middle East, where the Navy saw the most enemy engagements since World War II, is a testament to the sacrifice and dedication towards creating a safer and secure world,” Senator Scott told the Carney’s sailors. “Congratulations to the entire crew on a successful and historic deployment. Your country thanks you for your service.”
