MIAMI-DADE, FL—Republican candidate for Miami-Dade Sheriff Joe Sanchez said he wants to call out "Republicans in name only" as he blasts his same-party opponent, Rosie Cordero-Stutz, as a fake conservative who donates to Democrats.
“I announced my candidacy for Sheriff at the beginning of the year based on a simple, yet powerful platform consisting of two promises: I will bring Law and Order to Miami-Dade, and the only endorsements I seek are yours, my neighbors, and fellow residents of Miami-Dade County," Sanchez, a former Florida Highway Patrol trooper, said in a Tuesday afternoon statement.
"It seems this campaign has irked some candidates, like Rosie Cordero-Schutz—who give money to Democrats running for Governor and don’t even vote for Governor DeSantis or President Trump!" he continued—misspelling her name—before attacking Cordero-Stutz for living in Broward County, the "largest Democratic County in Florida".
According to Law and Order PC's rinorosie.com website, Cordero-Stutz allegedly donated to former Democratic Governor Charlie Crist in 2014 against Republican Rick Scott. Furthermore, it says, she did not vote for Governor Ron DeSantis nor former President Donald Trump in the Presidential Preference Primary.
Despite this, Cordero-Stutz, a former Assistant Director of Investigative Services in the Miami-Dade Police Department, has been endorsed by Trump, Congressman Carlos Gimenez, and Congresswoman Nancy Mace.
"Enough with RINOs in this race. We need to focus on what’s important to our residents: their safety and their families’ safety," Sanchez said. "As Sheriff, I will make law and order my priority and oppose any RINO and Democrat-led effort to defund our police.”
Sanchez and Cordero-Stutz will face down a crowded Republican field to win the Aug. 20th nomination, including Iggy Alvarez, Jose Aragu, Ruamen de Jesus DeLaRua, Alex Fornet, Jeffrey Giordano, Mario Knapp, Joe Martinez, John Rivera, and Ernie Rodriguez. Knapp has raised the most money, standing firmly with over $187,000 raised and $152,000 spent, compared to Sanchez's $160,000 raised and $113,000 spent and Cordero-Stutz's $148,000 raised and $125,000 spent.
On the same day, Democratic candidates John Barrow, Susan Khoury, Rickey Mitchell, and James Reyes will face off for their nomination. Mitchell and Reyes lead that race, with Mitchell having raised over $294,000 and spent $179,000 compared to Reyes' $154,000 raised and $140,000 spent.
The two winners will compete for the Sheriff slot on November 5th.
