After Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) stating that he and Facebook were “repeatedly pressured … to censor certain COVID-19 content,” by the Biden-Harris administration, Representative Laurel Lee (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business to discuss the notion of government interference on social media and the way historians will look back on the decisions those in power made during the pandemic which affected daily life across the United States.
“The whole idea of the First Amendment is that it allows us to express contrary ideas, to bring those out into the public square and let the public get to the bottom of what's the correct information,” said Rep. Lee. “And what's worse, history tells the story, and we now know what the data shows us about the fact that there were effective therapeutics, the fact that it was appropriate to be prioritizing seniors and the vulnerable.”
Furthermore, Rep. Lee discussed the idea that the information that was banned or suppressed during the pandemic wasn’t always incorrect, leading to the possible intentional attempt to ban correct information from spreading.
“So, you know, not only was it wrong for them to try to suppress opposing viewpoints, the actual data that we now have related to the pandemic demonstrates that these positions they were suppressing, that many of them were actually correct, and that the public would have benefited from having them out there and getting the option to make their own choices now,” said Lee.
These comments from the Florida congresswoman come just days after the recent developments surrounding the 291-page report of the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden (D), led by the House Committees on Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means. The report shares that there is “overwhelming evidence” demonstrating President Biden attempted to conspire to “monetize his office of public trust to enrich his family,” constituting “impeachable conduct.”
Congresswoman Lee responded with a statement accusing the President and Vice President Kamala Harris (D) of obstructing justice.=
“Joe Biden abused his position of power, as Vice President and as President, for the financial benefit of his family and business associates,” said Rep. Lee. “The Biden-Harris administration has repeatedly lied to the American people and obstructed investigations to hide the truth. See the 300-page House Judiciary report for yourself—the evidence does not lie. This administration must be held accountable.”
Laurel Lee represents Florida’s 15th Congressional District.
