Latest Poll Sees Trump Leading Harris on key Issues

Share

Vice President Kamala Harris (D) addressed the Democratic National Convention last night, bolstering support for the Harris-Walz ticket. Florida Democrats are "wildly enthusiastic" for the ticket according to Florida Rep. Kathy Castor (D), but the nation might have some reservations. According to a new CBS News Poll, President Donald Trump (R) is leading Vice President Harris on key issues that could significantly affect the November election.

In a recent interview, Rep. Castor shared that Florida Democrats are fired up over the Harris-Walz ticket, noting that over 25,000 volunteers have joined their efforts since President Joe Biden (D) stepped down. She likened the support in the Tampa Bay area to the support over President Barack Obama's (D) presidential bid in 2008.

"Something is happening here on the ground, and it, I see it in the public opinion polls, even for Florida. Based on public opinion polls, it looks like Florida's in play, or that's the trend, and it that reflects what I'm seeing on the ground and kind of the mood here in Chicago," she said.

However, a recent CBS News Poll shows a different perspective, indicating that President Trump holds a lead over the incumbent vice president on key issues.

When it comes to the economy, 56% of those polled side with President Trump compared to 43% who sided with Vice President Harris. On inflation, 61% sided with President Trump, and 38% sided with Vice President Harris. Finally, on the U.S.-Mexican Border, 76% sided with President Trump, and 24% sided with Vice President Harris.

The poll shows a growing divide when it comes to the issues. As Vice President Harris closes the gap, President Trump widens the gap when it comes to problems the country is facing.

Rep. Castor however is excited for the future, assuring that Florida could turn blue because Vice President Harris has reinvigorated the Democratic Party.

"When it was Trump vs. Biden, I think people were afraid that it was going to be an election looking backward."
