Florida Republicans Decry Thousands of Abandoned Children at Southern Border

A damning report from the US Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General on unaccompanied immigrant minors has Republicans criticizing President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.

The report alleges nearly 300,000 unaccompanied immigrant minors are currently unaccounted for by US immigration agencies.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reads the report, failed to locate more than 291,000 unaccompanied minor immigrants.

The report adds to the ensuing illegal immigration crisis that has plagued the US since President Biden took office.

Republicans harnessed the report to criticize the Biden-Harris administration, claiming it was yet another result of the administration’s failed policies.

US Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) credited Vice President Kamala Harris with the crisis.

“(ICE) has "no assurance" that these unaccounted illegal immigrant children "are safe from trafficking, exploitation, or forced labor," said Representative Cammack. “Kamala Harris has failed at every turn.”

Democrat Presidential nominee Vice President Harris has reportedly been tasked with directing the administration’s immigration policies.

Republicans have alleged a Harris presidency would feature expanded illegal immigration and new amnesty rounds.

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) similarly warned a “southern border would be nonexistent under a Harris presidency.”

Harris received criticism earlier this month after footage emerged of her promising supporters she will close immigration detention centers once president.

Harris made the comments during a campaign event in Iowa.

When asked if she would close immigration detention centers, Harris responded unequivocally: “Absolutely, on day one. On day one.”

According to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), detention centers hold and deport “ noncitizens who undermine the safety of our nation’s communities and the integrity of U.S. immigration laws.”

Detention centers also serve to house immigrants undergoing legal immigration proceedings.

Senator Scott cited Harris’ statement as proof of her agenda for a porous southern border.

“(Harris) believes in a wide-open border, mass amnesty, and zero punishment for breaking our laws,” said Senator Scott.
