Now that the dust has settled and the Republican Party has embraced Ohio Senator J.D. Vance (R), the party is eager to pursue a vice presidential debate. However, the party hasn't moved on from the presidential debate between President Donald Trump (R) and President Joe Biden (D). As questions surrounding potential vice presidential debates linger, the Trump campaign is waiting for Vice President Kamala Harris (D) to pick a "running mate."
Vice President Harris released a video this week, warning that Senator Vance would only further President Trump's "extreme agenda." In the video posted on social media, Vice President Harris addressed that "Trump looked for someone he knew would be a rubber stamp for his extreme agenda. Make no mistake, J.D. Vance will be loyal only to Trump, not to our country."
The vice president called Senator Vance to congratulate him on joining the race, and questions began to arise regarding a potential vice presidential debate between the two. In a statement, Brian Hughes, the Trump Campaign Senior Advisor, commented that the campaign doesn't "know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can't lock in a date before their convention." “To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate.”
Vice President Harris has agreed to three dates for a vice presidential debate according to a Biden-Harris campaign official. However, given that California Rep. Adam Schiff (D) called for President Biden to step down.
The California Democrat cited serious concerns in calling for President Biden to step down. "Our nation is at a crossroads,” Rep. Schiff warned. “A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
